Saving the Best Wine for Last

Sometimes it feels like your joy has run out — the celebration is still going, but your strength, ideas, or resources are empty. Yet in God’s hands, the end of what you have can be the beginning of what He wants to pour.

When the Wine Runs Out

At the wedding in Cana, they ran out of wine at the worst possible time — in the middle of the celebration. It was embarrassing, inconvenient, and threatening to the joy of the moment.

“Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” — John 2:10

The miracle didn’t begin until they reached the end of what they could provide. The empty jars became the very place Jesus chose to reveal His glory.

Your “Empty Jars” Moments

You may feel like you’ve poured out everything — in ministry, in motherhood, in marriage, in your calling. But God knows how to step into the middle of a moment that feels like lack and introduce a new level of grace.

Questions for Reflection

  • Where do you feel like the “wine” has run out in your life?
  • Have you invited Jesus into that place honestly, or have you tried to hide it?
  • What “jars” — habits, routines, disciplines — could you offer Him in faith?

A Prayer for the Final Hour

Jesus, I bring You the empty places in my life — the ones I’m ashamed of and the ones I can’t fix. I ask You to step in like You did at Cana. Save the best for last in my story. Let Your glory be revealed where my strength has ended. In Your Name, amen.
